Some good “mini habits” to practice each day...

1. Just after you brush your teeth, look at yourself in the mirror and smile. Even if you can't think of a reason to, still just smile and keep it up for 10 seconds. Guaranteed you will spend rest of the day happier.

2. Finding yourself opening facebook or whatsapp again and again? Put away your laptop and phone and go on a short walk wherever you can. Walking is known to help collect your thoughts and relaxing you.

3. Meditate for 10 minutes. If you have no clue how to, just sit in a quiet place and try counting your breaths till 10-15. Your focus should be on your breath and no thinking. Restart counting as soon as your mind distracts you and you find yourself thinking of something else.

4. Before your sit to work, remind yourself of TWO things that you need finished today (only two, no more). Remind yourself again in the lunch time. There are high chances you will get more important things done this way.

5. Just before sleeping, tell your brain to wake you up at ___a.m. You will be surprised when soon you would stop needing the alarm clock. Still a stubborn sleeper? Put your cellphone some distance away from you when sleeping so that you need to walk up to it when the alarm rings.

6. Revisit your day and remember the positive/good things from the day. Be thankful for those.

7. Try to do at least one new thing - be it taking a different route to work, talking to a new person, experimenting an activity you haven't before. Don't let your curiosity and awe die in the daily grind.

Does true love exist?...

It did for me. She lived miles away from me back home in India. Even though I am married and have a lovely wife taking care of me and my  kiddo, she would still make it a point to call me up every single day to find out if I had eaten my dinner on time and whether I was doing well. My mobile phone shows  '829' contacts. And every single time I got into a crisis or was down in the dumps for any reason, her's would be the number which got dialed from my phone. She never told me whether she was  sick, down with fever or in pain but she ensured to be there whenever I needed her.

Strangely last Wednesday she didn't call. Feeling something amiss I called her and she was her jovial self and told me she got a bit busy shopping with her husband and hence forgot to call me. Same thing happened for the next 2 days with no calls from her and I too didn't bother to call.

On Friday I came to know, she had lied. She was not busy shopping but she was suffering and in pain for the past few days. The pain was so intense that she couldn't even talk and hence did not call me. She passed away on Friday.

"She did not want you to worry unnecessarily" was the reply I got from my dad when I asked him why no one bothered to tell me before when she was suffering but alive.

Today with tears in my eyes, I am deleting that one contact, from my phone directory, to whom I was the world and wondering if true love ever existed, then I had just lost it, last Friday.

I miss you mom :(

What Happens if you eat raw garlic...

Eat garlic raw before breakfast to maximise the health benefits

Garlic is a pungent-flavoured plant bulb used to flavour food when cooked. It is also known as the 'Stinking Rose' and is used in herbal medicine to combat a number of diseases and ailments. When garlic cloves are crushed, chopped or chewed a compound known as allicin is produced and it is this which aids the human body. Heating or drying the cloves stops the production of allicin so to get the most our of the garlic, eat it raw mixed with something palatable like chopped tomatoes and pepper in a salsa or with plain yogurt as a kind of dip.

After crushing fresh garlic, let it sit at room temperature for 10 minutes to gain the most benefit from the allicin produced, as this is the optimum time for this compound. Make sure to consume two or three cloves at a time to help your body heal itself from the inside, and eat the garlic as soon as it is ready because allicin starts to break down after roughly an hour or so. Eating the garlic on a completely empty stomach, before breakfast, is reported to give the best results of all so consume it before doing anything else each morning.

Just before you start eating garlic, make sure you are not allergic to it as there are some people who are very sensitive to it. Some of the side effects are harmless enough, like suffering from increased stomach gas, but others are more serious such as skin rashes and trouble with breathing. If you suffer from these things, seek proper medical advice and stop consuming raw garlic.

Max hospital saket New Delhi a life saver or a death trap ?

My concern here is not just my concern...it is the concern of many people who go through this agony at Max hospitals on a daily basis. My bhabhi was admitted in the emergency of Max hospital in the evening of 31st Aug 2015 with a complication of constipation(not passing of motion for the past few days) and she was talking and in senses. The doctors on duty put her on the drip to inject fluid in her body and she was moved to the medical ICU on the sixth floor. She was fragile as she had been suffering from encephalitis. Without even bothering much about her condition and her past history, they just injected almost 2.5 litres of fluid into her which was very difficult for her system to absorb. Something ruptured inside and further complications set in. Next day passed in uncertainty as we were not clear what was happening with her. During night they wanted to do some surgery to take out the waste but couldn't do as she was not stable. During night ...Read more

Benefits of Flax Seeds !...

With the rising emphasis on fitness and healthy eating, a tiny seed has come in to much prominence- Flax or Linseed, also known as “Alasi” in Hindi. The benefits of Flax seed are numerous and this tiny brownish seed is packed with micronutrients, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and healthy cholesterol that help fight several ailments such as, diabetes, heart disease, cancer, hot flashes.  A single table spoon of ground flax seeds contain 2 grams of poly-unsaturated fatty acids, 2 grams of fiber and 37 calories. What’s even better is flax seed helps in losing weight and keeps the heart cholesterol free.

Antioxidants That Fight Cancer:

The high level of omega 3 fatty acid and Lignans present in flax combats prostate cancer, colon cancer and breast cancer. Three types of Lignans found in flax seed are-secoisolariciresinol, matairesinol and pinoresinol that has capacity to affect the hormonal workings and control hormone related cancers and hormone dependent tumors.

Shields the Heart:

The positive impact of flax on human heart is boundless. About 50% of the calorie contained in flax comprises of fats, which is a mixture of several fatty acids such as, poly-unsaturated fats, mono-unsaturated fats, and very little saturated fats. Most of the poly-unsaturated fats remain in the form ALA (alpha-linolenic acid). Now, ALA is a “miracle” fatty acid that helps to reduce bad cholesterol, while leaving the good cholesterol in the blood intact. It also reduces blood-pressure and chances of stroke.

Controls Diabetes:

Lignans present in Flax seeds work effectively in controlling Type 2 Diabetes. Research shows that a daily intake of flax builds up insulin sensitivity in glucose intolerant people. This is because of the high level of soluble fibers in flax. Consumption of a table spoon of ground flax seeds for a month has shown to improve fasting blood sugar levels.

Protect against Inflammation:

Two specific agents present in flax seeds, namely ALA and lignans have the capacity to check the flow of certain pro-inflammatory agents that are responsible for arthritis pain, Parkinson’s disease, asthma, joint pain, etc.

Controls Hormonal Imbalance:

The antioxidant property of Flax seed has been shown to reduce the symptoms of hormonal imbalance, such as, hot flashes and night sweat in post-menopausal women. Research has shown that a daily intake of about 40 grams or 2 table spoons of ground flax seed helps to improve moderate hormonal problems as well as overall psychological health.

Responsible for Flawless Skin and Shiny Hair:

The omega 3 fatty acids helps treat skin diseases like acne, allergies and sun sensitivity. In addition, it rejuvenates the skin, regenerates the skin tone and makes it smooth, supple and glowing. It fights the problems of hair fall, dry scalp, dandruff, brittle hair and supplies nourishment to the hair follicles to make the tresses healthy and strong.

Flax Seeds helps in Weight Loss:

Flax seed is an excellent addition to the diet if you are looking to shed some extra pounds and stay healthy. The high fiber content in flax makes it heavier as it absorbs fluids and expands in volume that keeps the tummy fuller for a longer time and check cravings and over-eating. This is highly favorable for weight loss. Although, calorie counters might feel a bit taken aback by the high calorie content of this seed, research shows that those calories come from “good fats” such as poly-unsaturated fats, and mono-saturated fats in the form of omega 3 fatty acids.

Touching short story......

One day, I was buying food at the grocery store for my family, but at the checkout counter my debit card came back declined for over-withdrawal. (I’ve been laid off from work for awhile now and am barely making ends meet.) As I quickly explained myself to the cashier and started putting back some of the food I had picked out, the man in line behind me stepped forward and paid for all my groceries. I thanked him, and he said, “Someone did the same thing for me several years ago. This is my opportunity to pay it forward. I hope you can do the same someday.”

I heard of this story a while back and today, when i was introspecting this story flipped in my mind and i couldn't help but share. Instances like these makes me wonder there is still alot of good left in this world, all we need to do is take it up for ourselves and in the moment of need pass it on and make someone smile everyday!
